Dear Colleague,
OFFSHORE ENERGY INDUSTRY CRISIS - Diving and Subsea Sector
Just when it looked like the industry was recovering from one of the worst downturns in a generation, we are slipping rapidly back into crisis due to the Covid-19 outbreak and the falling gas and oil prices. RMT is already involved in redundancy consultations with contracting companies across the sector as the oil companies slash activity and spending. We are doing everything we can in terms of lobbying Governments and industry to try and counter an economic disaster but we have to acknowledge there will be an impact on our members.
As a consequence of this industrial crisis we anticipate some of you may be displaced and find yourself out of work. If you are one of the unfortunate ones displaced, RMT wants to know, as we may be able to offer guidance and advice. If you have experienced a reduction in pay, the RMT may be able to assist in arranging a temporary payment adjustment to your subscriptions, allowing you to retain RMT benefits and continuation of Membership while helping to reduce your spending in these difficult times.
Depending on your own individual circumstances, this may include postponing the claiming of your subscriptions, a reduction, or an exemption. If agreed, the temporary arrangement is also subject to review by the end of June 2020 and any subsequent decisions on the arrangement thereafter will also be communicated.
If you have experienced the circumstances outlined above and wish to apply for a temporary adjustment to your contributions, please email Michelle Brown (M.Brown@rmt.org.uk). Michelle will send you a three question electronic form to complete and return which should take no more than a few minutes to complete. On receipt, RMT will determine if an adjustment can be made and advise you accordingly.
Please don’t struggle alone, let us know and we will do our best to ensure you can retain your membership and the benefits we offer, as well as keeping you updated with news around the industry.
Yours sincerely
Jake Molloy
